Official Rules & Match Regulations
Standard dodgeball is played 6v6 with 6 balls placed on the centerline for the opening rush. A player is eliminated if struck by a live ball below the neck, or if an opposing player catches a thrown ball in the air (which also allows one eliminated teammate to re-enter). Matches consist of multiple fast-paced games (e.g. Best of 5 or Best of 7 games).
Tournament Formats & Series Types
Intramural and charity events use Single Elimination with a 3rd place playoff. Competitive dodgeball leagues use Double Elimination to give teams multiple high-intensity matches.
Seeding Conventions & Byes
For charity fundraisers, randomize teams with "Random Shuffle". For league playoffs, rank teams 1 through 8 based on regular-season game win-loss differential.
Tiebreakers & Overtime Rules
If a match is tied at the end of regulation (e.g. 2-2 in a Best of 4 timed match), a 1v1 or 2v2 Sudden Death showdown is played: balls are placed at the center, and the first team to score an elimination wins.
Designate two referees per court: one on each sideline to monitor ball catches, boundary lines, and headshot safety violations. Keep a loud air horn or whistle for opening rushes.
