1

Official Rules & Match Regulations

Standard International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) and PKL matches consist of two 20-minute halves (40 minutes total regulation) with a 5-minute halftime break. Two teams of 7 players compete on a 13m x 10m EVA foam mat. A raider enters the opponent court chanting "Kabaddi" with a 30-second raid clock, attempting to tag defenders and return across the midline. Each tagged defender is out (+1 touch point), while tackling a raider awards +1 tackle point (or +2 points for a Super Tackle with 3 or fewer defenders). Inflicting an All-Out (Lona) scores +2 bonus points and revives all 7 teammates.

2

Tournament Formats & Series Types

Major kabaddi events use either a 12-team Page Playoff system (top 2 teams advance directly to Semi-Finals, while seeds 3–6 contest Eliminator 1 & Eliminator 2), standard 8 or 16-team Single Elimination knockouts, or Double Elimination draws.

3

Seeding Conventions & Byes

Teams are seeded 1 through 12 based on regular season league points. In a 12-team Page-Playoff format, Seeds #1 and #2 receive first-round byes straight into the Semi-Finals. In knockout brackets with non-power-of-2 team counts, byes are awarded to the top seeds.

4

Tiebreakers & Overtime Rules

In knockout matches ending in a tie after 40 minutes, a 5-Raid Tiebreaker (Golden Raids) is conducted: each team nominates 5 raiders to take alternate raids with all 7 defenders on the mat (no player outs/revivals, and baulk line serves as the bonus line). The team scoring the most points across 5 raids wins. If still tied, sudden-death golden raids decide the victor.

Game-Day Tournament Director & Scorekeeping Tips

Ensure the mat has at least a 2-meter safety run-off zone around all perimeter lobbies. Maintain strict 30-second raid timers on the scoreboard, assign dedicated linesmen to monitor yellow lobby entries, and keep ice packs and athletic tape at the medical table.

# Frequently Asked Questions about Kabaddi Brackets

Q: How does a Do-or-Die raid work in Kabaddi?

If a team has two consecutive empty raids (raids where no touch or bonus points are scored), their third raid is designated as a "Do-or-Die" raid. The raider must score at least one touch or bonus point, or they are declared out and 1 point is awarded to the defending team.

Q: What is a Super Tackle in Kabaddi?

A Super Tackle occurs when the defending team successfully captures and stops a raider while having 3 or fewer active defenders on the mat. The defending team earns 2 points instead of the standard 1 point.

Q: What is a Lona (All-Out) and how many points does it award?

When all 7 players of a team are eliminated from the mat, an All-Out ("Lona") is declared. The opposing team is awarded 2 bonus points (in addition to the 1 point for the final player elimination), and all 7 eliminated players are immediately revived.

Q: How are tied matches resolved in PKL knockout tournaments?

Tied knockout matches proceed to a 5-Raid Tiebreaker where both teams field 5 raiders in alternating turns with all 7 defenders on court (no revivals or player dismissals occur). If still tied, sudden-death golden raids continue until a winner emerges.

Q: Can I print tournament bracket sheets for gym score tables?

Yes! Click "Print / PDF" to download a clean, high-resolution landscape 8.5x11 bracket sheet formatted for tournament score tables and referee clipboards.
